Registration – Attend in Person

This year we will be hosting a hybrid conference and will be providing the opportunity for delegates to choose to attend the SLS 2021 Conference in person at Durham University, or to attend online and participate virtually.

We are delighted that you are considering attending the conference in person. You can expect the following:

  • A fantastic opportunity and perhaps the first chance to meet and network with colleagues within a safe environment at Durham University
  • The opportunity to explore the City of Durham
  • Attend the SLS Annual dinner with drinks taking place at St Chads College, Durham University and Dinner at Durham Town Hall this will include the announcement of the Birks Book Prize winner
  • A chance to meet face to face with publishers/exhibitors of the SLS conference and perhaps discuss your next book!
  • All prices include conference attendance, refreshment breaks, lunch and access to the conference App
  • Content associated with the ticket type you have booked, will be available to view post event ‘on demand’ for up to 90 days

Covid 19 Measures

The SLS conference will be delivered in line with the events industry all secure standard framework, we will ensure the following actions are undertaken

  • Physical distancing – all planning of conference sessions will consider the correct distancing measures and ensure these are all adhered to for your safety
  • Cleaning & Hygiene – this will be a top priority for the team at Durham University, with hand sanitiser and regular cleaning provided
  • Protect & detect – you may be required to take a lateral flow test to confirm a negative result in advance of attending the conference and then again throughout the event
  • Communication – a full outline of precautions will be provided nearer to the event date and in line with the UK government guidance.

If the UK government impose further restrictions on conference venue capacities, bookings for the ‘in person’ conference will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

If we are unable to provide a place at the ‘in person’ conference you will be advised of this change and moved to the ‘virtual’ conference and provided with a refund for the difference. The same will apply if we are placed into another local or national lockdown you will be rebooked for the ‘virtual’ conference and a refund applied.

The SLS Conference will take place at the Teaching & Learning Centre Map reference 24, South Road, Durham DH1 3LU. Please note there is no parking outside the TLC.

SLS Hot Buffet Dinner on Tuesday 31 August will take place at Collingwood College, Map Reference 6, South Road, Durham DH1 3LT.

SLS Conference Drinks on Wednesday 1 September will take place at St Chads College, Map Reference 19, 18 North Bailey, Durham DH1 3RH and the Annual Dinner will take place at Durham Town Hall, Market Place, Durham, DH1 3NJ.

SLS BBQ on Thursday 2 September will take place at Hatfield College, Map Reference 20, North Bailey, Durham DH1 3RQ.

Set in tranquil woodland, Collingwood College was founded in 1972 as the first purpose-built mixed College in Durham University.  Named in memory of Sir Edward Foyle Collingwood, a mathematician and scientist and originally designed for 260 students, the College now has a broad mix of 1,100 undergraduates and postgraduates from around the world.

All bedrooms have the following facilities:

Rooms will be ready by 2pm on the day of your arrival and you need to leave your room by 10am on the day of departure. The Reception is open 9am to 6pm daily. Outside of these times, a 24-hour Porter can show you to your room and can be contacted via the internal telephone near to the reception desk. Breakfast is served in the College Dining Hall from 8am to 9am.

Refunds for cancellations will be made as follows:

Cancellations must be received in writing to slsconference@mosaicevents.co.uk.

– Received on or before Friday 16th July 2021: Full Refund (minus £10 administration charge)
– Received on or after Saturday 17th July 2021: 50% Refund
– Received on or after Friday 13 August 2021: No Refund

Delegate substitutions can be made at any time by contacting slsconference@mosaicevents.co.uk.
No refunds will be made for delegates not attending conference or for missed bookings.
All rates shown are not applicable for VAT.
