Additional Support Fund

The Annual Conference Additional Support Fund (ASF) will open on Friday 30th January 2026 for applications for the SLS Annual Conference to be held at the University of East Anglia from 2-4 September 2026.

The SLS seeks to ensure that the conference remains as accessible as possible to our members, at all career stages. To this end, the registration fees are reduced for student members of the society. We also ensure that members enjoy a reduced attendance fee. For those attending for more than one day, we also provide an ‘early bird’ reduction in the registration fee.

In 2023, the Society introduced an Annual Conference Additional Support Fund (ASF) to support attendance by members with special circumstances or in financial hardship warranting additional support. The Fund (£10,000) will be available again for the 2026 Annual Conference.

Application Guidance

To apply you must be a member of the SLS and priority for support will be given to applicants who have no other source of funding.

The standard, maximum award covers two‑day conference registration, one night’s on‑campus accommodation at the host university, and travel expenses. If you have circumstances which require further funding, please clarify this in your application.

Applications for financial support will be invited from Friday 30 January 2026. Decisions will be made by a panel made up of the President, Vice President, the Treasurer, and the Chair of the EDI Committee. The panel will aim to maximise the funds available and therefore applicants may receive full or partial support at the discretion of the panel, and the decision of the panel will be final. In considering applications, the committee will consider financial need, the personal funding allowance available to an applicant by their institution, and the benefits gained by attending the conference.

You must be a member of the SLS to apply and applications must be validated by a Head of School / Director of Research or equivalent to be considered.

Please do not register for the conference until you have received notification of the outcome of your application.
