The Venue
What is SLS?
The Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) is the learned society for those who teach law in a university or similar institution or who are otherwise engaged in legal scholarship. Where is the conference?
The conference will take place at the University of East Anglia (UEA), New Science Building, Chancellors Drive, Norwich, Norfolk, NR4 7TJ.
How do I get there?
Is parking available?
Yes, complimentary parking is available for all conference delegates in the University of East Anglia main car park, located at point 5 on the campus map.
If you are staying in campus accommodation, please register your vehicle details when checking in.
If you are attending as a day delegate, please register your vehicle details at the conference registration desk each day of attendance.
Is there a campus map?
Yes, you can download a copy of the campus map here. The New Science Building is spot 37 and the campus hotel (Broadview Hotel) is spot 18a.

Where is breakfast for campus accommodation guests?
Breakfast for campus accommodation guests will be at Zest.
During the conference, Zest will be opening earlier than usual for breakfast throughout the week.
Breakfast will be available for residential guests at the following times:

How can I view the conference programme?
Can I change my sessions?
When signing up for the conference you may have pre-selected the sessions that you would like to attend. If you want to now change your options, you can do so. Please just go to the new session on the day of the event that you would like to attend. You do not need to notify us of this change.
When is the AGM?
The AGM will take place on Thursday 3 September 13.00 – 14.00 in the Julian Study Centre, Lecture Theatre. All SLS members are welcome to attend. This will be followed by the SLS Council meeting.

What do I do if I’m speaking at the conference?
If you’re speaking at the conference, please ensure you have read through the speaker guidance document here. Each of the meeting spaces will come equipped with a laptop, projector, and screen. Audio-visual technicians will be on hand to assist if required.
Speakers are requested to register on arrival and then make their way to the relevant meeting room in good time before the start of the session. Please bring your presentation, if you have one, on a memory stick, which can be inserted straight into the USB drive on the PC provided.

Do I need to submit my paper before the conference?
We encourage all speakers to submit the full written version of their paper before the conference begins. Please upload your paper to your original submission in Oxford Abstracts by Friday 28 August 2026. You can do this by visiting https://app.oxfordabstracts.com/ entering your email and password, and within your submission navigating to the section headed ‘full paper’ within the original form.

Do social events need to be pre-booked?
Yes, all social events must be pre-booked and paid for except for the Drinks Receptions taking place on Wednesday 2 September 18.30 to 19.30 and Friday 4 September at 15.30-16.30 which are open to all delegates to attend.
If you have booked for the Informal Dinner on Wednesday 2 September and the Annual Dinner on Thursday 3 September, this will be noted on your name badge (in the bottom right-hand corner). For all other events your name will be on a list, there will be no tickets issued.

SLS Annual Conference Dinner

Set within the Georgian surroundings of The Assembly House, the Annual Dinner provides an opportunity to come together for an evening of celebration and conversation in one of Norwich’s most historic and elegant venues.
Guests will be welcomed with a Drinks Reception in the Grand Hall/Music Room before enjoying a three-course dinner in the Noverre Room. Following dinner, the evening will culminate in the presentation of the Peter Birks Book Prize and the Margaret Brazier Book Prize.
A complimentary coach is provided for delegates staying at the Broadview Hotel.
Outbound journey: The coach departs the Broadview Hotel at 18:30 on Thursday 3 September. The pick-up point is to the left of the hotel on the road (an SLS team member will be there to direct you).
Return journey: A shuttle service back from the Assembly House operates from 22:00 until 23:00.

Is there any networking support available at the informal dinner?
Yes. To help first-time SLS Conference attendees, as well as anyone looking to meet colleagues and expand their network, we’ll have some tables hosted by members of the Executive to help facilitate this. On arrival, please speak to a member of the SLS team, who will direct you to a table hosted by an Executive member. They’ll be on hand to help you get to know and network with fellow delegates.

How do I connect to the Wi-Fi?
Free Wi-Fi is available to all conference delegates. University of East Anglia (UEA) will provide access to Eduroam whilst you are attending the Conference, there will also be details to log onto Eduroam at the Conference on the Registration desk.
Is a Multifaith Prayer Room / Quiet Space available?
Yes, the UEA Faith Centre offers a spiritual space and a community within the campus available for all delegates at the SLS Annual Conference; this is in the Julian Study Centre in room JSC 1.01.
Is there a Luggage Store?
Yes, Luggage can be stored in room NEWSCI 0.09, within the New Science Building. All items are left at the owner’s risk and neither the University of East Anglia (UEA), the SLS nor Mosaic Events accept responsibility for personal belongings.
How do I find the room for a session?
Inside each building, floors are clearly labelled and follow the format ‘00.00’. The first part of the number denotes floor level and the second part the room number – for example, 01.23 is floor 01, room 23.

Will photography and filming take place at the conference?
Will any plenary sessions be recorded and how do I access the recordings?
Yes, we are recording all plenary and ECR sessions. These will all be available to all delegates to view post event up until Friday 27 November 2026. You should receive a link to access this after the event, but if you have not, please let the registration team know or email slsconference@mosaicevents.co.uk.
Will a delegate list be available?
A networking list displaying delegates’ names and organisations (no contact details) will be available at the registration desk. Only in person delegates who consented to inclusion will appear on this list.
If you would prefer not to be filmed, have your photograph taken or your details within the delegate list, please email SLSconference@mosaicevents.co.uk, no later than Friday 28 August.
